Art was born on March 23,1939 to Walter and Apsie Higham in Riverside Ca on March Field Air Force Base.
After leaving High School he enlisted in United States Navy in 1956 and served 6 valiant years on the Navy Destroyer Ship, USS Dixie (AD-14)
Art lived the best life he knew and left this world with a passion for his family, the Navy, his many friends from the Gym and TOPS.
While our hearts mourn the loss of our wonderful father, grandfather, and husband we take comfort in knowing his journey since the stroke is now over.
Art was the sweetest man with a very kind and gentle soul who never met a stranger. Ask him about the Navy, and you wouldn’t be left without a great conversation to follow.
In honor of his final wishes, he will be laid to rest at a Military Cemetery.
Art is preceded in death by his beloved twin sister Esther. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Marilyn and his children, Vern Higham (Stephanie) of Fairbanks, AK, Crystal Hill (Lonny) of Maxwell, CA and Violet Coffey (Ted) of Glenn, CA. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Ian Bonner, Vern Higham, Kirk Troughton, and Lacey Higham, 12 great grandchildren and his oldest sister Ellen. He is also survived by his extended family, the Azevedo’s of Red Bluff, Sacramento and New Mexico.
Prior to the funeral service, a catered luncheon will be held in his honor at Carlitos Mexican restaurant in Red Bluff on Wednesday September 11, 2024 at 3pm. The family would be honored if all were able to attend both services, a luncheon to celebrate a wonderful man and share memories and stories, and the Memorial Service held on September 24, 2024 at 2pm at the Northern California Veterans Cemetery, 11800 Gas Point Rd, Igo Caif. If unable to make the journey to Igo, we would love to have you attend the celebration of life luncheon.
