Brent was born in Lodi, California to Mahlon and Diana Hettick. After his birth, the family moved to Reno, Nevada before settling in Red Bluff, California in 1978. Brent attended grade school at Bend Elementary, and graduated from Red Bluff High in 1984. He then went on to get his BA degree in Business and BS degree in Psychology at Chico State. After college, he worked for Goodyear Tire in Sacramento, where he stayed for several years before starting with a large computer training company, New Horizons. He then transitioned to DevelopMentor in Torrance, then later, he began a private toy import company called Magic in Motion in Orange County. Brent was proud of his role in international products, and took several trips to China to visit factories and colleagues during the height of his import business.
Brent was very proud of his time coaching each of his children's soccer teams. He enjoyed it so much that he eventually became a soccer referee for the AYSO, he also mentored other referees, and was very passionate about the organization and the positive message he was able to convey to the players and referees. He was well known as a fun and enthusiastic volunteer to his friends in AYSO. When there was not enough referees (a common occurrence) Brent would referee three or four games back-to-back, both Saturdays and Sundays, to make sure the kids had a good experience.
He was also a huge fan of the Dodgers. He watched almost every game and took several trips to Arizona and Florida to visit Spring Training Camp and see his favorite stars. On one particularly memorable trip to Arizona, he was fortunate to be able go with his father on a travel-trailer trip to share the training camp experience.
Brent returned to Red Bluff each year to spend time with his sister, Christine, and more recently, to attend the Red Bluff Round Up. Attending the Round Up was a family event since Brent was a child, up until his father passed away. He was excited about reviving that family tradition.
He shared how fortunate he felt to have the kind of relationship with his children that made it okay for them all to live together into their adulthood. He spoke often of how proud he was of his children and how much he enjoyed them as adults. He also spoke often of his wife, Bobi, he was very proud that they were still close, and the friendship and love endured.
Brent had joined AA in the recent past, he expressed to his sister how much the camaraderie and fellowship that was present during the meetings helped him to overcome his challenges, and was very proud knowing that sharing his story helped others to overcome their challenges.
He was the kind of person who would give whatever he had to help another, and all who knew him felt lucky to know he was there for them if ever they needed a friend.
Brent was preceded in death by his father, Mahlon Hettick and mother, Diana Hettick. He is survived by his wife, Roberta “Bobi” Hettick, his daughter Sophie and her husband Duy Pham, his daughter Chloe Hettick and his son Mahlon Hettick, his sister, Christine Hettick as well as niece, Diana Hays, nephew Blake Seitzinger along with many grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Brent was also survived by a large and loving in-law family who were a very big part of his life.
Brent loved every single one of his family members and friends, he cherished each and every one of them, and the special relationships he had with all.
