
Doug was born on April 14, 1947 in Red Bluff, California, and graduated from Red Bluff High School in 1965. After attending UC Davis, he lived in several cities before returning to Red Bluff, where he worked for the family business, Dale’s Insurance. Doug was a member of the multi-generational Tehama County Dale family, and his great-grandfather, Creath Dale, established Dale’s Station in 1908 as a stage stop outside of Red Bluff on Highway 36E.
Doug was active in the local community throughout his life, serving on several boards and commissions, including for the Northern California Title Company, Camp Tehama, the Tehama County Genealogical and Historical Society, and the City of Red Bluff Planning Commission. He was also a member of the Red Bluff Kiwanis Club.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents William Connell Dale and Marjorie Mae Barney Dale, and his sister Constance Dale Dolan. He is survived by his sister Janet Dale Shaw (Sacramento), his nephew Matthew William Dolan (Wenatchee, WA), and his niece Catherine Dolan Mitchell (Salt Lake City, UT). Doug will be remembered for his easy-going nature, his curiosity about the world, and his wealth of knowledge about local history.
A graveside service will take place on Wednesday, April 14, Doug’s birthday, at 11:00 am at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Red Bluff. There will be time to visit and share memories at the conclusion of the service in lieu of a reception.
