

Burton "Pete" Petersen, 84, passed away July 2, 2010. He was born in Woodland, California to Harold and Vivian Petersen, who lived in Trinity Center, California. They moved to Redding in 1940 for him to attend Shasta Union High School from which he graduated in 1944. He joined the Army in June 1944 and served until 1946; attended the University of California, Chico graduating in 1952.
He was a life member with 52 years as a member of Redding Elks #1073; 59 year member of American Legion Post #746; member of Riverview Golf and Country Club, where he served as Captain of the Seniors Men Group; Past member of Redding Rotary with a Paul Harris Award. At UC, Chico, he was a member of the Knights of Falstaff and Chi Tau fraternities. In his free time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and traveling.
A proud moment in his professional life was passing the CPA test and becoming a partner in Nystrom & Co. CPAS' where he worked for forty years retiring in 1991. Prior to and during college he drove delivery truck for Pepsi Cola. During high school, he worked at Cascade Theater and Montgomery Ward. He coached baseball for Redding Youth Baseball while his sons were player and bat boy.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Isabelle, sons Douglas and wife Karen of Rancho Murieta, California; Randall of San Francisco, California; and daughter Robin of Redding; five grandchildren Rebecca and husband James Carlson, Jeffrey and wife Kathryn Petersen of Atlanta, Georgia, Travis and wife Diana Petersen of Rochester, New York, Ryan and Riley Rickman of Redding, California; five great-grandchildren Alexander, William and Porter Carlson; Rylan and Abbe Petersen of Atlanta, Georgia.
Burton was proud of his children's accomplishments and was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather to all.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 8, 2010 from 5 to 7p.m. at McDonald's Chapel, 1275 Continental St. Redding, California. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 9, 2010 at 10:30a.m. at McDonald's Chapel. A graveside service will be held at the Northern California Veterans Cemetery in Igo, California on Friday, July 9, 2010 at 2p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Elks scholarship fund or a charity of your choice.
