
Long time Redding resident Gerald L. (Jerry) Dangl passed away on March 29, 2016, after a short battle with cancer. Jerry was born February 19, 1934 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
He earned a Bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan, and a Master's (teaching credential) from Michigan State University. He met and married Evelyn C. Savage of Ypsilanti, Michigan, in 1957.
Jerry moved with his family to California in 1964. After one year in Santa Rosa, they settled in Redding, where Jerry began a long career of teaching, coaching and counseling in the Shasta Union High School District, with stints at Central Valley, Nova, Shasta and Enterprise High Schools. He is survived by his wife, his three children, Jeff Dangl and his spouse Sarah Grant of Chapel Hill, NC; Gerald S. (Bud) Dangl and his spouse, Mary Lou Mendum, of Davis, CA; his daughter, Kristin M. Dangl and her son, Shaquille Harvell, of Los Angeles, CA; his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Jim Huebner and their family, also of Redding; and a sister-in-law, Peggy Dangl and her two children of Grand Rapids, MI.
As per his wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no service or memorial. Instead, he wished to establish a scholarship fund in his name for a deserving student from the Shasta Union High School District to attend a four year university.
