Gertrude Marie Hanson

Gertrude passed peacefully, surrounded by family, at Mercy Hospital on February 9th, 2017. Gertrude was born April 16th, 1929 in Erskine, Minnesota, (the 6th child in a family of 10) to Leon & Margaret Hayden. She then moved with the family to Fairview, Montana where she attended grammar and high school.

In 1946 Gertrude married Arnold Hanson and the couple resided in Fairview, Montana and later Sidney, Montana until they moved to Redding, Ca in 1952. Gertrude worked for many years as a secretary for St. James Lutheran Church. Then, in 1961 she was employed as an Assistant Manager in the bookstore at Shasta College. She worked there for 32+ years until finally retiring in 1994. After her retirement, her and her husband traveled extensively to Asia, Europe, Australia and around the world. Gertrude & Arnold were happily married just 3 months shy of 69 years.

She was pre deceased by her parents, Leon & Margaret Hayden; her husband, Arnold; her 5 brothers, Richard, George, Robert, Raymond & Wilbur and her sister Margaret Denowh.

Survivors include her two sons, Raymond & Kim Hanson of Reno, Nevada and Leon & Gayle Hanson of Redding, Ca; Her sisters, Mary Schaub of Havre, Montana, Doris & Ken Roe of Redding, Ca & Barbara Reidle of Fairview, Montana; her four grandchildren, Lori, Melissa, Brent & Emily and her two great grandchildren, Amelia & Raymond as well as numerous nieces & nephews.

She was known for her sewing, crocheting, needlepoint, cooking & baking. Her cinnamon rolls, pies, apple cake, date cake & famous Divinity candy were heavenly. She was also an avid San Francisco Giants fan. Her quick wit & humor will be forever missed.
