John was a longtime resident of Trinity Country, moving into the area when he was just 2 years old. He spent his life serving others; he was a beloved bus driver at Trinity High School, transporting the majority of the sports teams from Trinity High to all their events. He managed Trinity Market for more than a decade, getting to know most of the residents on a first-name basis. He was a member and former “Humbug” of the Clampers, chapter 62, where he leaves behind some of his closest cohorts.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years and high school sweetheart, Mindy Bentley, as well as four children,
John Bentley, Corri Johnson (Byron), Heather Thigpen and Mike Bentley (Jilmarie), and five grandchildren including Raeann Johnson, 12, Braeden Bentley, 10, Kaelen Johnson, 8, Nolan Bentley, 8, and Trenton Thigpen, 5. A
sixth grandchild is due to make its arrival in August. He also is survived by sisters Judy Bentley and Lois Shriner and brother-in-law Herk Shriner.
Close family and friends are strewn throughout Northern California.
A celebration of life is scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at the C.D. Hall in Weaverville.
