

He is preceded in death by both of his parents and grandparents. He leaves behind his wife of over 50 years Dorothy in Round Mountain, CA. His Daughter Kathy Willett from Draper, Utah and his youngest daughter Elizabeth Packenham of Redding, CA. As well as 5 grandkids and 9 great grandkids.
Mr. Buffington enlisted in the United Stated Army at the age of 17, serving in both the Korean War and World War II earning himself a Bronze Star. After leaving the army he spent 26 years with the Los Angeles Police department. After his retirement he and his family moved to the family ranch in Round Mountain, California in 1973.
His retirement was busy and included but was not limited to serving on the Mountain Union School District board for many years. He served as Master for both the Montgomery and Pomona Grange as well as sitting on the Highway Safety Committee. He sat on the location committee for Foothill High School and was on the Mountain Community Hall board and was very instrumental in getting it built. John was also a Past District Governor in the District 4-C1 Lions as well as a charter member of his Lions Club.
Services will be held on Wednesday September 30th at the Mountain Community Center in Round Mountain. Visitation at 10 am and services at noon. Graveside services 11 am on Friday October 2nd, 2015 at the Northern California Veterans Cemetery in Igo. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to: City of Hope 1500 East Duarte Road, Duarte, CA 91010.
