Sim Nathan, a life-long Redding resident, was born to Sim and Stella Nathan in Redding on June 28, 1928, and passed away on March 27, 2017 at the age of 88.
Sim attended Redding schools, graduating from Shasta High School before graduating from Chico State. He met his wife, Marian, at Chico State and they were married in 1951. After being honorably discharged from the US Army, he returned to Redding to join the family business, operating Sim Nathan's Shoe Store until his retirement in 1997.
Sim was civic minded and served as president of the Chamber of Commerce; chairman of the Redding Downtown Mall Association; director of the Redding Medical Center Governing Board and was a founding director of Country National Bank. He and Marian enjoyed golfing as a member of Riverview Golf and Country Club, As a 58 year member of the Redding Elks Lodge, Sim served in all Chairs and was Exalted Ruler in 1983. He served as CHEA State President from 1997-1998 and Grand Esteemed Loyal Knight from 2013-2014.
Sim was respected in all areas of his life. He was a quiet, kind, honest, hard-working man with a good sense of humor. He was a fan of the San Francisco Giants. He and Marian loved traveling and visited many parts of the world.
Sim is survived by his loving wife Marian of 65 years, his three daughters, Marilyn Nathan, Claire Carpenter (Gordon), Pam Stephenson (Bob); grandchildren, Crystal, Jason, Stacy, Bryan; and great-grandchildren Kelsey and Emily.
Graveside services will be held Friday, April 21st at 10:00 am at Redding Memorial Park, 1201 Continental Street, Redding, CA 96001, followed by an 11:30 am Elks service and Celebration of Life at the Redding Elks Lodge. A viewing will be held the night before, Thursday, April 20th from 5:00-7:00 pm at McDonald's Chapel Redding.
