

She enjoyed her early years in the mountains, but left for flat land at the age of 16. She attended nursing school in South Carolina and finished her RN studies at long ago closed Grace Hospital. Peewee nursed Richmonders at Grace, St. Elizabeth’s, and Richmond Memorial completing her career at Stuart Circle where she helped start a detox unit.
John Arthur Leffingwell Jr., a Richmond city boy, stole her heart and they wed in 1954. A daughter and one son soon followed. The family settled in east Highland Park. Life was good. Peewee was known for her Bridge/ Setback playing skills.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, John Leffingwell Jr.; and her only brother, Nolen Radford.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Peggy L. Walker (Paul “Bo”) and their sons, Brian (Jessica), Wray Bradford (Carly); son, Jay Leffingwell (Bonnie Baker) and their daughters, Leigh Lewis (David), Annie Thompson (Harper), Jaynie Lindsey (Sean); beloved sisters, Virginia Anderson (Joe), Joanne Rivers (Gary); and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Peewee adored her fourteen great grandchildren.
She was pleasantly content through all of life’s sorrows and joys. She died as peacefully as she lived on June 15, 2024 at the age of 95. “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.” Ecclesiastes 3:1.
A funeral service will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va. 23231 on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at 2 p.m. with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Washington Memorial Park, Sandston, Va.
