

Alice Taylor Baldwin died on June 20, 2025, at her home, at the age of 97. She was born on June 18, 1928, on Raines Avenue in Sandston, Virginia. She is the daughter of the late William Henry Taylor and Mary Burgess Ramos Taylor. Alice was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband, Calvin Carter Baldwin. She is survived by her daughter, Patrise Baldwin Sears, her sister, Jane Taylor Conner (Lee), her sister-in-law, June Shumate Baldwin, and her grandchildren, Allison Carter Hazzard (Bryan) and Justin Andrew Sandford (Nicole). Additional survivors include her eight great granddaughters: Lily, Brynleigh, Taylor, Evelyn, Eleanor, Kaitlyn, Kayleigh, and Raylynn and her many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was also predeceased by her sisters and their husbands, Annie Taylor Pullen (Roy) and Mary Louise Taylor Byrne (Paul).
Alice was a graduate of Highland Springs High School (class of 1946) and attended Madison College (now known as James Madison University). She retired from Bell Atlantic (Verizon) after 34-years of service. A lifetime member of Sandston Presbyterian Church, she was active in the Women of the Church (honorary life member) and served as an elder of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. Alice was also active in various community organizations including the Sandston Women’s Club and the Founder’s Club of Sandston (founding member) and served as president of both organizations for multiple terms. Alice was a member of the Chancellor Wythe Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Henrico County Historical Society. She enjoyed playing bridge weekly at the Springs Recreation Center and was a lifetime member of the “Sandston Seven” (friends from grade school through college that stayed connected throughout their lifetimes).
The family will receive family and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on June 30th at the Nelsen Funeral Home, Laburnum Chapel. Graveside services are scheduled for July 1st at 11:00 AM (Washington Memorial Cemetery, 6217 Memorial Drive, Sandston) with the Celebration of Life immediately following the burial (12:15 PM) at Sandston Presbyterian Church, 13 North Confederate Avenue in Sandston. A reception prepared by the Women of the Church will follow the service.
