Blanche Dillard Robertson passed away February 6, 2015, in Kilmarnock, Virginia, only six days shy of her 96th birthday. Her parents, her sister Thelma Holland, and her beloved husband of 69 years, James Leonard Robertson, preceded her in death. Blanche and Leonard moved into their home at 111 E. Union Street, Sandston, Virginia, in 1941 where they raised their three children, Elaine Robertson Snyder (now of Newington, Connecticut), Sherwood Alan (Captain Woody) Robertson (now of Reedville, Virginia) and Michael Craig Robertson Sr. (now of New Kent, Virginia). Surviving are her sister, Irene McKay; daughters-in-law, Sharon Robertson and Donna Robertson; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Blanche, though primarily a homemaker, had also retired from Miller & Rhoades in Richmond where she took advantage of her employee discount to buy many, many gifts for her family. She was an avid reader, especially of history and her local newspaper. She was especially proud of her many published “ letters-to-the editor” and “Correspondent of the Day” articles for the Richmond Times Dispatch. Her signed copies of her published “Plugger” cartoons made her very proud as well. She was an eager and active member of the Sandston Women’s Club. A long-time member of Sandston Baptist Church, she was the Correspondence Secretary for many years and volunteered in many other helpful ways. In her last years in this life, she continued her church mission still singing the beloved hymns to the other residents of her home at the Lancashire Convalescence Center in Kilmarnock. She will be missed. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 10 at 9 a.m. with a funeral service immediately following at 10 a.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, VA 23231. Interment to follow in Washington Memorial Park.
