A proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Wayne discovered during his military years a lifelong passion for aeronautics—a passion that shaped both his education and his career. He obtained his pilot’s license, and later graduated from Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology, further deepening his expertise in the field he cherished.
Wayne built his career as a mechanic and technician working for multiple healthcare organizations as well as several Fortune 500 companies. One notable professional milestone was with Boeing, where he worked on the newly introduced 747-200, the aircraft that would become the foundation for Air Force One. His work reflected not only technical skill but a genuine love for flight and engineering.
A lifelong learner, Wayne was an avid reader whose intellectual curiosity knew few bounds. He immersed himself in aeronautics, medicine, and geopolitics, and he held a particular fascination with Russian history. His conversations were rich, thoughtful, and often illuminated by the depth of his study.
Wayne found real joy in working on cars. His special affection for Volkswagens led him to rebuild several, each one a project that brought him both challenge and deep satisfaction.
Wayne is preceded in death by his son, Paul R. Mullins (Marlys Pearson). He is survived by his son, S. Andrew Mullins (Vickie); his grandchildren, Lily, Janie, and Aidan; his sisters, Edith Robertson and Geraldine Vogt; and many nieces, nephews, and friends who adored him. Each carries forward a piece of his warmth, wit, and wisdom.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Amedisys Hospice Care, whose dedication made it possible for Wayne to remain in the comfort of his home. Special thanks go to Emily Manning, Khaalisha Connelly, and Lyle Burk, who not only provided exceptional care, but also offered Wayne a new and appreciative audience for his stories.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date
