Charles Bernard Powell Jr.

POWELL, Charles B., Jr., 70, went to heaven on July 1, 2017. Charlie is survived by his loving wife, Ann, of 33 years, and stepson Michael Leland; daughters: Lisa Powell and Stacy Rogers (Steve); grandchildren: Thomas Smith, Jordan and Lucas Rogers; mother, JoAnn Powell; brothers: Ricky (Judy) and Mike; sister Brenda White (Stanley); plus, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Charles and his brother Tommy. Charlie grew up in Varina, and later lived in Mechanicsville, Urbanna and Chesterfield. Charlie retired with distinction from Dupont, as Maintenance Supervisor-Spruance, in 2003, after38 years of service. He was a long time member of Cold Harbor Ruritan Club, holding several offices including President. Charlie loved sports, and was an extremely enthusiastic Redskins fan. He will be sorely misses by family and all who knew him. Visitation will be held at Nelsen Funeral home on Laburnum Ave., Saturday, July 8, from 2-4 p.m. – 6-8 .pm. A celebration of Charlie’s life will be held at Bethel Baptist Church, 1100 Huguenot Springs Rd., Midlothian, 1 p.m., Sunday, July 9, 2017. Graveside service will be at the church cemetery, followed by a reception at the church. Online condolences may be conveyed to the family at www.nelsencares.com.
