SUMNER, Rev. Cheryl V., nee Barr, Rowles went to the church triumphant on June 14th, 2018. Rev. Sumner had a varied career from secretarial and accounting at Ryan Homes until she found her love in ministry. She attended Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh, PA where she received a BS and MS and much later attended Union Prebyterian Seminary (Union PSCE) as a second career student where she graduated with a MDIV in 2004 and was called to Montrose Presbyterian Church, (who sadly had to close its doors in 2014) as temporary supply and subsequently achieved in Feb, 2007. She has served on the Older Adult Committee and the Committee on Ministry for the Presbytery of the James, the regional governing Presbytery for this area in Virginia. Cheryl is survived by her sister Janalane (J. Wayne), her brother Howard (Nancy), nieces Jane Ann, Rebecca, Laura and Elizabeth and nephews, Scott, Robert and Wayne and other beloved family members. Cheryl was preceded in death by her husband William, her father Howard, mother Virginia, brother Robert and her two nephews James and Glenn. In lieu of flowers Cheryl requests donations in memory to the Presbytery of the James toward Older Adult Ministries. The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 19, from 4 to 8p.m., at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va. 23231. Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 30, 11 a.m. at Sandston Presbyterian Church.
