McGEORGE, Ellett Richard Jr., 87, of Varina, Va., died Thursday, January 1, 2015. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Lee, of 62 years; and is survived by his four children, Patricia Browne (Walter), Pamela Keating (John), Rick McGeorge and Bruce McGeorge (Ann). He is also survived by many grand and great-grandchildren, to whom he is lovingly known as "Gaga"; a large extended family and many dear friends. Ellett Richard was a WWII Navy Veteran and a University of Richmond football player from the famed "Coach Pitt" era. He will be most remembered for his dedication to both school and community, serving as head coach for Varina High School and Founding Director of Recreation and Parks for Henrico County. He will also be fondly remembered in later years for his charismatic auctioneering. A man who worked to shape leaders, instill confidence and foster accountability, "his boys" will continue to live by his words, "You win with good people, who do their job to the best of their ability; your sacrifice should be for the good of the locker room and not for the man in the mirror." The family will receive friends on Friday, January 9, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave. An Episcopal service followed by a graveside ceremony will be held Saturday, January 10, 2015 on the grounds of Varina Episcopal Church. The late afternoon services celebrating this great man's life will begin at 4:30 p.m. The family will be welcoming donations to the McGeorge Memorial Fund, Varina Episcopal Church.
