James Bernard “JB” Anderson went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at age 88. JB was the second son born to Aubrey and Ruby Wade Anderson of Highland Springs, Virginia. JB served in the US Navy during WWII on a submarine as Seaman 1st Class from 1944 – 1946. After 45 years of service with Dominion Power (VEPCO), he retired in 1992 as a Construction Superintendent. During his years with VEPCO, he was based in Richmond, Suffolk, Fredericksburg and Norfolk, before returning to Highland Springs. He retired to Quinton, in New Kent County. JB said his life began when as a newspaper delivery boy, he met Catherine “Skippy” Gammon. They were married at Highland Springs United Methodist Church on March 11, 1950, where they were members for over 70 years. He served as a trustee and consulted on various construction projects. He spent many years supporting Skippy’s passion for watercolor painting. He framed her paintings, crated and transported them to art shows, constructed and erected displays all over Virginia. It was truly a labor of love. His beloved wife, Skippy, preceded him in death in 2009. Left to cherish his memory are two sons, Michael Anderson and his wife Cathy of Virginia Beach and Robert Anderson of Quinton; four grandchildren, Kate (Jake) Morgan, Jeff and Ava Anderson, and Derek (Nicole) Hanson; and two great-grandsons, Bryce and Evan Morgan. He is survived by three brothers, Aubrey Jr. of Manquin, Francis of Highland Springs and Edwin of Tulsa, OK; sister-in-law Dot of Highland Springs and several nephews and nieces, including Ashley Smith who held a special place in his heart. Services will be held on Monday, May 9, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Washington Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church following the burial. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Highland Springs United Methodist Church.
