James W. Kirby “Kirby,” 91, of Varina, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 20, 2017. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy in World War II. He is preceded in death by his son, Mike Kirby. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary F. Kirby; his children, Mildred Scorborough (Bob), Robert Kirby, and Deborah Thomas (Danny); grandchildren, Melissa, Ashley (Ryan), and Katie; great-grandchildren, Kristina, Hunter, Chesney, Windsor, and Wyatt; and his dog, Sandy. Special thanks to Tina and Carriece, hospice nurses. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 25 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Avenue, Richmond. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 26 at 11 AM at Washington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please consider an offering to Fort Lee Baptist Church.
