
Jane Grant Brown Deane Landers passed away peacefully and went to be with the Lord on July 24th, 2014. Jane fought a long and courageous battle against lymphoma and other health issues. She had most recently been in hospice care at St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond, VA. She was 80 years old. Jane was the daughter of the late Reverend James Herbert Brown, Jr. and Margaret Mahood Brown. She was also preceded in death by her sister Margaret Brown Childress and her brother James Barton Brown Sr. Jane is survived by four sons Phillip Deane (Debra), Russell Deane (Michele), Robert Deane (late Lynda Lee), and Michael Deane (Tammy), and two daughters, Rose Kinder and Betsy Jewell (Wade). She is also survived by her twin sister Julia Brown Poling, thirteen grandchildren (Joshua, Nicolette, Brendon, Rachael, Taylor, Phillip, Michael J., Layton, Cory, Ben, Olivia, Sarah, and Juan Carlos), and six great grandchildren (Jakob, Ashlynn, Elias, Sawyer, Clara Kate, and Grant), the last of which was born on July 22nd. She was a special aunt to many nieces and nephews. Jane loved time spent with her loved ones and she was the heart and soul of her family. Jane worked for many years as a day care director at Brookland United Methodist Church, Raleigh Forbes Memorial Baptist Church, and Carlisle Avenue Baptist Church. She was loved and respected by the many children she ministered to and who referred to her as "Miss Jane". She was an avid and voracious reader who was especially interested in history. She was a master cook and loved to collect recipe books. She has passed on her love of cooking and reading to her children and grandchildren. Her father was a Methodist minister and she was raised in the church. She was a long time member of Brookland United Methodist Church in Richmond. She taught many of the love of Jesus Christ in the way that she helped other people, listened to their stories, and engaged in friendly conversation. She had many great personal friends who blessed her with friendship, and who were also blessed by her. Her many acts of kindness, generosity, and hospitality will not be forgotten. She will be greatly missed by all those who have known of her love, compassion, and understanding. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Brookland United Methodist Church, 2501 Staples Mill Road, Richmond VA 23230, where a Memorial and Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday August 2nd, 2014, at 11 a.m. Family visitation and reception will follow the service.Arrangements under the direction of Nelsen Funeral Home & Crematory, Richmond, VA.
