She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Eldridge “Dave” Davis Duffey, her mother Blanche Estelle Smith Langford and her father Thomas Langford. She is survived by her two daughters, Gloria and Stephanie; two grandsons Michael Babich and Seth Blanck; one brother Thomas Langford Jr; one niece and several nephews as well as a multitude of wonderful relatives and friends.
Janie was born on April 11, 1940, in Scottsburg, VA. She met Dave in second grade; they reconnected and married on August 19, 1959, moving to Richmond, VA six and a half years later and eventually settling in Sandston, VA. She thoroughly enjoyed worshipping her Savior and learning more about His Word as she faithfully attended church services and supported several ministries.
Janie loved her family fiercely and worked endlessly to provide what they needed. She made sure her family was dressed to impress when it mattered, especially for church services. Although Janie never learned to swim, she realized how much Dave loved fishing in nearby rivers and overcame her fears to spend time with him on their boat. After she retired from Wythe Pharmaceuticals, she and Dave traveled the East Coast in their RV, spent a few winters in Sarasota, Florida, made several trips to Texas and finally fulfilled their dream of visiting the Grand Canyon. Always grateful for everything she and Dave were blessed with over the years, Janie found great joy in taking care of her house and relished spending time with her family. She had a big heart and those around her always felt loved. Her family will miss her big bright blue eyes, shining with excitement as she celebrated the successes of her loved ones.
A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at Nelsen Funeral Home, located at 4650 S Laburnum Ave Richmond, VA 23231. Join the family for visitation at 1:00 pm and the celebration of life service at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Washington Memorial Park located at 6217 Memorial Dr Sandston, VA 23150.

Janie’s inner peace gave her a calming presence which brought out the best in others.
She exemplified Luke 6:35: “But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest…”
In turn, our Heavenly Father blessed her with true happiness, a loving family and wonderful memories.
