Jeanette Berthel Canada (81) of Richmond, VA slipped peacefully into eternal rest when God called her home on May 20, 2024, at Hanover Heath and Rehabilitation Center after battling a long-term illness.
Affectionally known as “Pookie” to those who love her, Jeanette was born on Aug 19, 1942, to Leroy Brown Sr. and Mary Frances Brown. She was educated at Richmond Public Schools. After 30 plus years of working, she retired from the city of Richmond Juvenile Detention Center as head cook.
She is preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, William (Bill) Brown, Robert (Paul)Brown, LeRoy (Mann)Brown and Charles (Ricky)Brown.
Jeanette leaves to cherish her memories former husband and lifelong friend, Wallace H. Canada Sr., two brothers Thomas (Tommy) Brown Sr., Cornelius (Butch) Brown, and eight children Rhonda Houchens, Wallace Canada Jr., Darlene Harris, Mary Canada, Larry Canada, Rodney Canada, Sheila Canada, Shalonda Wells, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Jeanette was a loving wife, mother, sister, and friend. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching her favorite soap operas, game shows, the ID channel and Lifetime tv. Other hobbies included doing crosswords puzzles, baking, sewing, and fishing. Jeanette will be deeply missed by family and friends.
