John W. Hubbard Sr.

HUBBARD, John W. Sr., 91, of Mechanicsville, passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2016. He was owner and operator of J.W. Hubbard Builder & Real Estate Co. He served in the U.S. Army, 101st Airborne Division, in WWII participating in D-Day, the Battle of the Bulge and received a Purple Heart. In 2009, he was a recipient of a Congressional Commendation. Mr. Hubbard was an active member and Elder at Patterson Avenue Seventh Day Adventist Church, member of VFW Post 9809 and a member of the Lion's Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Nina Hubbard; and six siblings. He is survived by six children, Linette Petty, John Hubbard Jr., David Hubbard, Stuart Hubbard (Jacquie), Lisa Caspero (Mark) and Laurie Paul; 10 grandchildren, Michael Leath (Suzie), Jennifer Hueston (Tripp), Allison Sweet (William), Melissa Fischer (Joe), Jessica, Alexandra and Sam Hubbard, Erica Creasey, Ashley Paul and Clayton Durham; eight great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Andrea and Michael Leath Jr., Meghan and Tyler Hueston, Blakely Foster Sweet, Jackson Griffin and Tyler Dillis. The family will receive friends Monday, March 28, from 12 noon to 2 p.m., at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va. 23231, where a funeral service will be held immediately following at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Signal Hill Memorial Park.
