

Johnnie "Luke" Johnson, Jr., of Varina, was born in Richmond on June 21, 1974 and gained his wings in Heaven on February 18, 2016. Luke is survived by his wife of 20 years, Lyndie Alvis Johnson; children, Kassity Sigmund and Cpl. Dylan Johnson; grandchildren he adored, Luke and Kyleigh Underwood, all of Varina; mother, Sandy Mays; grandmother, Dorothy "Mimaw" Hall; sisters, Kami Johnson Combs (Tommy), Joni Hughes and Samantha Mays; and sister-in-law, Lisa Chandler (Mark). Luke is also survived by numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was a mentor for countless children in his life, devoting many years to coaching baseball and football for Varina Recreation. There was nothing he wouldn’t do to help a child. Luke was employed with MasTech Advanced Technologies at the time of his death. Prior to that, he worked for Smurfit Stone Container (Rock-Tenn Co) for 19 years. The family will receive friends at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., on Tuesday, February 23, from 4 to 8 p.m. A service will be held at the same location the following day at 2 p.m., with interment to follow at Washington Memorial Park. Luke was a devoted husband, dad, papa, son, brother and friend. His presence and love was felt by all.
