
Joseph R. Madison, Jr. also known as, Butch, Mouse, J.R., Roy, and Papa, 75, of Sandston, passed away October 16, 2014. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph R. Madison, Sr.; mother, Margaret Sale Willis and his wife, Gail Madison. Roy retired from the Virginia Air National Guard after 32 years of honorable service. He was an avid golfer, crossword enthusiast, and had a love for sports. He is survived by his step-daughter, Stephanie Beattie (Robbie); granddaughter, Callie Beattie; sisters, Jackie Smith, Barbara Evans, and Sandra Horton (Larry); two aunts, Elsie Jepsen and Louise Crank, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Avenue, Richmond, VA 23231. A graveside service with military honors will be conducted on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in Signal Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.
