Dear Mark,

My name is Dale W. Myers.  I go way back with Mollie, Red and Brenda.  I went to East End Jr. High and John Marshall High Schools with Brenda.  I helped them clear the land for their River place in Reedville in 1955.  My family moved, and I only saw Brenda in classes after school started in Fall of 1956.  I worked after school, so I was not involved in after school activities.

I saw Mollie’s obituary in the newspaper on Tuesday and was surprised to read that Brenda was deceased.  
I knew of Red’s passing.  Brenda’s old high school boyfriend, Roland, stopped by our house in the late 1990’s and told me.  Roland said he made it to the funeral, and Mollie said she knew he would be there.  

I tried to find out about Brenda’s life, but I only found the date of death 7-2-2006 and that she lived in Marietta, GA..  I hope I don’t upset you by asking if you would let me know if Brenda had any children and the cause of her death.  You can e-mail me at  dalem23227@aol.com whenever you feel comfortable.

I do send you my heart felt sympathy for your loss.  All three were very special people.

Mark we are so sorry for your loss.   Aunt Mollie will be sincerely missed. We always enjoyed her so much. She was such a wonderful lady,  who was so proud of you and loved you very much. Aunt Mollie is a great lost to our family. Aunt Mollie was our link to family history. We always enjoyed her telling us family stories from the past.

My deepest condolences for your loss.  I have so  many fond memories of Mollie (Red and Nanny).   They always have and will continue to have a special place in my heart.

My first memories are of going to “Aunt Mollie and Red’s” house. There were tall glass containers of M&Ms, others of peanuts, and still other candy. There was a somewhat old, grey and black dog, “Smoke,” that I was a little afraid of. 😄. She would let us swim in her pool which, for me, was the most amazing part.  A couple of times she would babysit me, and I played Mark’s Atari. He had a lot of games!  She would always say things to make me laugh, as would Red, and between my great grandmother “Big Nanny” Kidwell and her, no one ever went hungry. She would tell us of her trips around the globe, and would talk to all of us about current events and of great memories. As I’ve aged and have a family of my own, I have lived quite a ways from all of my family.  I’ve seen her much less than I should’ve and have been sad about that at times.  She was always available on the phone though for questions about genealogy or even about places in the world. She helped me learn about the region in Germany where some of our family used to live before our trip there last year. She was a lady for her times.  I will not forget her. 

Mark, I am so sorry for your loss.  I enjoyed my travels with Molly, and 25 years later we’d still laugh at something that happened in Paris or in Egypt.  I’ll never forget your hospitality when we came to visit you all and go to the Virginia Derby.  She was a very special person and my life was enriched by my friendship with her.  I pray happy memories give you comfort & help ease your sadness.

Mollie was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll Thurston, also known as “Willie” or “Red”; and her daughter, Brenda Thurston Neese. She is survived by her son, Mark C. Thurston; two granddaughters, Susan S. Cronin and Carol S. Williamson; and great-grandchildren, Courtney and Caine Wilson and Andrew Cronin.
