On a day filled with love (Valentine's Day) and surrounded by those he loved, Mack Donald Hudson, 84, departed this life to be with his Savior whom he loved. Mack was born in Clover, Va., on April 28, 1931, to William and Lottie Hudson. He spent a childhood with numerous siblings and tobacco fields. Mack worked hard from day one and embodied a strong will and spirit, while being the perfect example of a gentleman. Never harsh or rash, Mack allowed the Lord to guide his life. Mack served in the Korean War from 1952 to 1954, returning to Clover afterwards. There he would meet his beloved wife, Janie, and marry, beginning a steadfast and true commitment that would last 55 years and only divided by death. Mack and Janie moved to Richmond and settled on the outskirts of the city, a little city for her, a little country for him. They were blessed with one son, Mark, whom Mack loved dearly. Mack worked for nearly 34 years as the Superintendent of Buildings at MCV, before retiring to be one amazing Grandpa. His two grandsons, Hayden and Emanuel adored their Gimpy. Mack is survived by his devoted wife, Janie; son, Mark (Kathleen); his grandsons, Hayden and Emanuel; and his one surviving sister, Nancy Carter of Delaware; along with a host of nieces, nephews, greats and friends, who he thought of as family. Visitation will be held at Nelsen's Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Thursday, February 18, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Calvary UMC, 1637 Williamsburg Rd., Richmond, at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 19, with reception following. Burial will occur at Clover Cemetery in Clover, Va., at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 20, with a graveside service.
