The Welsh Society of Fredericksburg, Virginia will miss its long time member Phyllis. Phyllis also spoke Welsh and was an active part of our Welsh language classes and a passionate volunteer with the Fredericksburg Welsh Festival every year when she lived here.  I wish the Society had been notified of her passing and the funeral arrangements as we are so close. We could have had some Welsh music on bagpipes at Quantico.

Aunt Phyllis was always a loving and generous Aunt.   She believe in me even when I didn't.   Thank you Aunt Phyllis.    Love Celia Belsky

Phyllis was a wonderful, sweet lady. Our most sincere condolences.

Mrs. Belsky always made me feel welcomed with a big hug, a big smile and a hot cup of tea. She was not feeling well the last time we saw each other,but she wanted to only hear of how my family was doing & not dwell on herself.I'll always remember her kindnesses and gentle ways.

Thank you for always being a source of love and light in mine and my family's life.  When I think of you, I think of smiles, songs and scolding hot tea.  You gave all of us the great gift of your love and you will be forever missed.

My childhood never knew a world where three generations did not exist together under one roof. The idea that some homes are not blessed with the love of a grandmother seemed quite foreign to me.  However, when my Welsh grandmother came to reside in our Miami home, I remember thinking how unusual this would be. Prior to living with her, I remembered her visits consisting of mosquito repellant gear, sunscreen, and an extreme desire to be indoors avoiding the heat at all costs. I wondered how this new living arrangement would turn out. 
As the years passed by I obtained an answer to my question.  She was a strong, stubborn, independent, outgoing, loving woman.  Living with her taught me that at any age you can have a joy de vive that is contagious to those around you.  When I would dance, she would join. When I would work out in the kitchen, she would give me feedback and then reach down and touch her toes. If there was a party, she was there (usually singing her famous “happy birthday song”). If she didn't like the topic at the dinner table, she would steer it to her liking.  She knew that there was always a way to take charge of your life.  She gave me idioms to deal with disagreements often whispering, “ Tell him your shoulders are square,” when my brother and I would fall into an argument.  She knew the importance of independence, rejecting my many offers to help her in anyway she needed. My grandmother was a unique woman and I am so happy that God sent her into my life. I would have been a far more ignorant and provincial individual without her presence in my life.

They say that on the other side of the world there is gold.  I am not sure about that.  But I do know that you to me we're worth more than gold.  I will always remember you in my heart, and in my thoughts.  May God have you in a sacred place.

After living with someone you grow to know their idiosyncrasies. Grandma had plenty that I'll miss. Among them are her night time prayers/hymns, her sudden lapses into reverie about Bob and The War, the smell of peanut butter every morning followed by the clanking of her fork against the ceramic bowl as she mashed the peanut butter into the oatmeal, her unusual Christmas gifts,  the QVC packages arriving at the front door (and the guilty pleasure it gave Grandma to have ordered them without anyone knowing), and most of all, her birthday song, which at first was a source of humor, but quickly became, to me at least, the outward display of her finest qualities: geniality, eccentricity, and thoughtfulness. Her death is difficult for all those who knew and loved her.

Phyllis had to overcome many challenges during the course of her life including war and the untimely death of a loved one.  It is only because we know the ending that we know Phyllis and Bob were made for each other.  They were two very different people who proved that love can conquer many obstacles.  There was no one more fun to visit or share an activity with.  She and Bob will continue to be an inspiration to those of us who knew them.

I will miss Phyllis.  She was a fun, funny, bubbly, generous, and warm lady.
The positive memories she leaves behind will never fade.

My grandmother's heart was filled with song and a tremendous amount of love. When she would give us a hug it felt like the world was realigned on its axis again. Her world was filled with laughter and sweetness peppered with hot, English tea and toast with butter. She made my childhood magical with stories and songs of her homeland. She was the sunshine you could always count on when you needed it most. She will be greatly missed.

God Bless, Phyllis. It was an honor to know her and to feel the joy she always brought with her.

I was so sorry to hear of Phyllis passing, she was my neighbor on Longstreet Ave.  Her husband and her were such sweet people.  I sold Avon and lived down the street from them, they were so nice to talk to.  Our thoughts and prayers  go out to you and your family.  Cheryl Peyton Valdivia

Godspeed Phyllis.  May you be reunited with your beloved Bob.  Thank you for being one-of-a kind in a monochromatic world.

When you blow out the candle, your eyes are all aglow.  That's the love light in your eyes where ere you go.
