Richard E. "Puckcy" Childress, Sr.

Richard E. Childress (Puckcy), 86, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on November 11, 2016, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Phyllis (Swann) Childress; four children, Lindsey Langston (Ronnie), Gena Brown (Sam), Ricky Childress, and Rob Childress (Terri). Puckcy is blessed with five grandchildren, Ronald (Frankie), Nicole, Kayla (Mark), Tyler, and Angel; two great grandchildren, Mackenzie and Tanner; and one great grandchild on the way; two sisters, Marie Finch (Alan), and Leigh Overton (Harvey). He is preceded in death by his parents, Riley and Goldie Childress; four brothers, Bo, Hickie, Roland, and Herbert. Puckcy was a member of Black Creek Baptist Church and also attended the Church of Christ. He was an active supporter of his community and owned a Dry Wall business for over 60 years. He loved fishing and NASCAR racing. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 14, 2016 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Nelsen Funeral Home Laburnum: 4650 S. Laburnum Ave, Richmond VA, 23231; casual attire welcome. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at 2pm at Nelsen Funeral Home Laburnum.
