Ruby Mae Carper Edwards (99), of Richmond, VA, had a happy reunion with her beloved husband of almost 67 years, Kenneth G. Edwards, in the early morning hours of October 25, 2017. Mae was born on October 23, 1918, in Dublin, VA, and had lived for the last five years with her daughter and son-in-law in Blackstone, VA. She was caring. She cared for her siblings and mother, cared for her husband and daughter, Carol, and cared for her granddaughters when they were sick or just needed a visit at “Camp Grandma.” She fed countless students at Fairfield Middle School and Jacob Adams Elementary school as a cafeteria worker there. She was an excellent cook and you NEVER left her table hungry. She was diligent. She was a hard worker and was well known for organizing the production line at the Dr. Pepper Bottling plant in Roanoke, VA and selling hot Dr. Pepper at football games. She was strong. She was willing to shoulder any burden for her family. She had an incredibly strong heart and faith. She was beautiful. She loved beautiful things, most especially flowers and children. She made many of her own beautiful clothes and clothes her daughter loved. She even made lovely doll clothes, including tiny buttons and fasteners. She was funny. She and her sisters would leave your sides aching. She could get “tickled” and carry you right with her. She is now finally at rest, reunited with all of her siblings, her parents, and her beloved “Cagey.” Those that celebrate her long life include her daughter, Carol Sanger and her husband, Fred; two granddaughters, Emily Camden (Jimmy) and Kate Harris (Jeff); five great- grandchildren, Myrria, Logan, and Lily Camden and Kenny and Sam Harris. The family would like to thank Nena Hines for her time, caring, and love during these last few years. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 PM on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave. Richmond, VA 23231, where a service will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at 12 PM. Interment to follow in Washington Memorial Park, Sandston, VA.
