She relocated to Los Angeles, CA in the late 1970s and resided there until 2008. St. Juanita joined the House Of Prayer For All People under the leadership of Bishop W. McCollough. She was made a Saint and a ordained missionary by this great leader of the House Of Prayer. St. Higgins had a made up mind that she would serve God faithfully and do his works. She has done missionary works in the Los Angeles “skid row” section in the downtown metropolitan area. This area consists of the most severe poverty and downtrodden people who are homeless. She helped to feed homeless people in the parks of Long Beach, CA and at bus stations in San Francisco, San Diego, CA. She attended Los Angeles Sunday School consistently and worked with the many House Of Prayer auxiliaries starting with the Back the Attack with St. Vera Milliner, Savettes with St. Gabbi Stewart and Bro. Harold Seymore’s, The maids with her granddaughter Shana, The helping hands with St. Smith, and the willing workers and Sr. Queens of Richmond, VA.
Her missionary works extended to visiting the sick and shut in and helping them with anything that needed to be done. She traveled throughout the House Of Prayer and helped where needed at some of our annual convocations. She loved to talk and discuss the Bible. She loved people and believed that all souls could be saved by God. She never looked down on people and gave anyone the benefit of doubt.
St. Higgins in 2008 left California and moved to Richmond, Virginia and continued working in the House Of Prayer until she couldn’t and still worked the financial and spiritual programs of the House Of Prayer. She loved her Richmond spiritual family as she did her Los Angeles family. She was known for praising God and giving a spiritual dance and shout to God’s glory around the holy mountain. She will be truly missed and will always remember her teachings and to keep God first and anything is possible.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her children Kathleen (Los Angeles, Ca.), Sherry (Orlando, Fl.), Donna (Atlanta, Ga.), Tony (Lexington, Ky.) and Nietta (Dallas, Tex), and Milton (EUGENE, OR). And a host of grandchildren Shana, Kiona, Ladonna, Juan, Tanisha, Asia and Efren Jr. and her son in laws, nieces, nephews, her pet Lulu, and her spiritual family of Los Angeles House of Prayer and, her House of Prayer Richmond Family.
She leaves behind her three sisters, Evelyn Beckham of Lexington, KY, Rev. Mildred Higgins Patton of Centerville, Ohio, and Deaconess Irniece Jones of Huntsville, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Elsie Jr. Higgins, Kenneth R. Higgins and Marvin Higgins as well as her eldest daughter, Eugenia Higgins Withers.
Rest well Saint Higgins, if we live a righteous life we will see you again. We will rise from our graves with the Holy Spirit to meet Christ and have eternal life as we will have lived as Jesus wanted us to and have given our life to him as he died for us to have a chance to the eternal tree of life. Suffer no more and pain no more. You, St. Higgins have endured to the end.
