Samuel Ray Roberts Sr.

ROBERTS, Samuel Ray, Sr., age 95, of Scottsville, Virginia, originally from Richmond, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2015. The son of Lilly A. and Porter Roberts, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara A. Cordier; and son, Samuel Ray Roberts Jr. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Bernice Rice Roberts; sister, Jessie Reaves of Richmond; stepdaughter, Cindy Caldwell (Alfie); grandsons, Edward and Troy Montgomery of Richmond; two granddaughters, Jessica Caldwell of Richmond, and Lisa Poole of Hiram, Ga.; several great-grandchildren; and nieces, Pat, Faye, Jennie, Susan, Robin, Charlotte and Dianne. Sam has been a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, in Scottsville, Virginia. He loved boating in his younger days and loved working in his shop. Mr. Roberts was an Army veteran and retired as a construction superintendent. He was a Past Master of Northside, Babcock and Scottsville Lodges. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. November 17, 2015, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. November 18, 2015 at Nelsen Funeral Home with interment to follow in Forest Lawn.
