Sandra Kay Pike Tate-Kirby

Sandra Kay Pike Tate-Kirby, 57, departed this life on Thursday, February 19th, 2015. She was preceded in death by her father, Franklin D. Pike; her grandparents, Daniel “Dan” Marsh and Ollie Harris Pike and Arthur Tallmadge & Bessie Bell Brammer; and her long time K9 companion, who she missed every day, Dusty. Sandra was a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Daughter, Grand-daughter, Sister, Aunt and friend. She was survived by her mother, Geneva Bell Brammer Pike; her loving husband, Larry Wayne Kirby; her loving daughter, Jennifer Renee Tate; step son, Glen W. Kirby; step grand-daughter, Jordan M. Kirby; brother, Franklin Daniel “Danny” Pike and his wife, Mildred Denise “Dee”; nieces, Kristin Denise and Heather Daniel Pike; nephew, Jason Jessie; great-nephew, Brayden Daniel; blessed with 38 cousins, her closest being, Leah Harris; her best friend Wanda Davis; her CNA’s with Heart Team, Flo Fitzgerald, Nikkita Carroll and Anita Whitlow; Smokey, her mom’s dog and Jennifer’s dog Tinker Bell. She was born in Burlington, NC in 1958 and graduated from Varina High School in 1976. Sandra worked as a Lucent Business Associate with Lucent Technologies. Sandra cared for her Aunt Alberta and her Aunt Doris for over 12 years, while taking care of her mom Geneva. Sandra had a heart of gold. Together, with her daughter, Jennifer, and Flo Fitzgerald she wanted to broaden her horizons by extending more care for others. In doing so, Red Roof Assisted Living was established. Sandra shared joyous times with her husband Larry tending to her numerous animals and loved special moments with her family and friends. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 24 from 2-4 and 6-8pm at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Avenue, Richmond, VA 23231; where a funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, February 25 at 2pm. Interment will be in Washington Memorial Park. Following the interment will be a repast at the Richmond East Moose Lodge, 7167 Flag Lane, Mechanicsville, VA 23111.
