Rev. Vernon E. Courtney, 80, of Hopewell went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 4, 2015. He was a retired minister and former pastor of Chester Church of God and Culpeper Church of God. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy W. Courtney; daughters and sons-in-law, Sylvia and Tommy Hopkins and Wanda and Bobby West; grandchildren, Tracy and Kevin Crown, Trey West and Courtney West; great-granddaughter, Addison Crown; and brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Hazel Courtney. The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Chester Church of God, 4700 Lee St., Chester, VA 23831; where a service will be held Wednesday, April 8, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
