Walter lived the last 40 years of life at the same address in Sandston and knew all the neighbors for blocks around. Once an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, gardening, golfing and traveling – mainly to the Caribbean Islands, Central America and Virginia Beach – in his later years he was plagued by mobility issues and could rarely leave the house, contenting himself with watching his beloved Redskins/Football Team/Commodores and NASCAR on tv. He retired from Altria after a long career as machine operator. He kept few pictures of himself, but treasured a portrait of his beloved beagle, Snoopy, who happened to be sitting contentedly in his lap. He also was proud of an 8-lb. citation bass he caught and mounted on a wall in his home.
Besides his parents, Walter was predeceased by a sister, Jean C. Allen; he is survived by a sister, Linda Mae Allen; two daughters, Carol Allen Roller and Cynthia A. Brannan, both of Mechanicsville; and two dear friends/neighbors, Steve and Tina Thomas.
Visitation and a short service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 8, 2022 at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 South Laburnum Avenue, Richmond, VA.
You may leave remembrances of Walter on their website and honor his memory by making donations to The Salvation Army Central Virginia Area Command, PO Box 12400, Richmond, VA 23241 (designated for Homeless Prevention).
