Rill spent her childhood splitting time between the family home in Montreal and Quilchena, a working cattle ranch in British Columbia. It was at Quilchena where her love of horses began. As an adult in Vancouver, Rill worked as a flight attendant for Canadian Pacific. She then moved to California and met her beloved husband, Tom.
Tom and Rill moved to Rochester Hills in 1989, and Rill became an active member of the community. She often volunteered for the Older Person’s Commission, Stephen Ministries at St. Paul’s Methodist Church, Baldwin Center, and Meals on Wheels.
Rill loved spending time with family, dear friends, her many animal companions, and traveling. She especially loved her time with the “ski queens” and developed deep friendships that became family.
She is survived by her daughter Emily (Bart) Hannaman, Baton Rouge, LA, her step-children Brian (Guen), Clackamas, OR, Bree Maher, Vancouver, WA., and her beloved grandchildren Callum and Niall Maher, Lee, Cole, and Grace Hannaman.
Rill was preceded in death by her parents, Allan and Jane, her husband, Tom, her siblings, Mary Leigh, Nancy, and Anne, and her nephew Braedon.
A memorial visitation for Rill will be held Friday, June 7, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. at Pixley Funeral Home, 322 W. University Drive, Rochester. Burial will take place in the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations directed to Neighborhood House in Rochester.
