Born July 15, 1971, in Royal Oak, Michigan, David was the beloved son of Joseph and Elizabeth Komjathy, who survive him.
David’s brilliance and curiosity were evident throughout his life. He earned his undergraduate degree from Central Michigan University, followed by a master’s degree in medical science and an MD, both from Wayne State University. He went on to build a meaningful career as an internist, including a period of service with the Veterans Affairs healthcare system—meaningful work of service in the largest integrated healthcare system in the United States.
David is survived by his siblings Tom (Kim), Bob (Pat), Joe (Terrie), and Jojo (Carmen). He was predeceased by his brother Jim (spouse Melodie survives him). He is also lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, colleagues, and friends who admired and cherished him. He is especially missed by former partner and dear friend, Curi Kim.
A man of extraordinary intellect, David was known for his vast knowledge across countless subjects and his love of reading and learning. He was also a gifted guitarist, and music remained one of his greatest joys. David had a special affection for northern Michigan, particularly Glen Arbor, a place that brought him peace, inspiration, and a sense of home. He had wide-ranging interests - too many to list, but examples include gardening, aviation, and cuisine. And in a charming hallmark appreciated by all who knew him—if something came in orange, David chose the orange one.
David will be remembered for his intelligence, his sense of humor, his curiosity, and the unique spark he brought to those around him. His family and all who loved him will carry him in their hearts always.
A private service for immediate family will be held this Saturday. The family is selecting a charity that reflects David’s finest qualities, to be named soon for those who wish to make a memorial contribution in his honor.
