Beloved wife of the late Henry Lind. Loving mother of Laura (George) Layton, Nancy Lind, and Elizabeth Lind. Cherished grandmother of Cheryl Nystrom, Amanda (Dr. Ryan) Silwanowicz, and Merry Krus, and great-grandmother of Henry, Lucille, and Alice Silwanowicz. Sister-in-law of Alice Flynn and Corinne Hutchison. And aunt of many nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by her parents August and Amanda (Rodhe) Guelzow and siblings Frederick Guelzow, Ronald Guelzow, William Guelzow, and Henrietta Swacina.
Helen was born on December 31, 1924 in McFarland, Wisconsin. She graduated from Deforest High School, class of 1942 and began working in a gun powder lab during World War II. Helen finished the cadet nursing program at Madison General Hospital, earning her Registered Nurse certification. She met Henry Lind in a Lutheran student house in Madison, Wisconsin and they were married on Sept 2, 1950 in Fort Worth, Texas. Helen moved with her family first to Milwaukee, later Racine, Wisconsin, and finally to Rochester, Michigan in 1971, where she has been part of the community for nearly 51 years.
Helen had a successful career as a Real Estate Agent for Chamberlin and Prudential Real Estate for many years. Over the years she served as the PTA area president for the schools; a member of the Meadowbrook Women’s Club; and she was active in her church, St. John Lutheran.
Helen’s family will welcome all to a visitation on Wednesday September 7th, 2022 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Helen will lie in state on Thursday September 8th from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, located at 1011 W. University Drive in Rochester, Michigan. Interment will follow at Mt. Avon Cemetery in Rochester.
