Ian was a kind and peaceful soul. Intelligent and funny, his wit, jokes and thoughtful questions about life brought much joy to his family and friends. He deeply loved animals — pets and people alike felt calmer and happier in his presence. He truly cared about others, and each person he knew felt accepted and loved, never judged.
Ian grew up playing Little League baseball and interacting locally for Magic:The Gathering tournaments.
Later, he discovered a love for disc golf and darts. At age 17, Ian placed 2nd statewide in the Michigan Youth Dart League Tournament.
He also had a wide network of gaming friends from near and far. One gaming buddy summed up Ian by saying, “Ian was the nicest guy I've ever known. He rarely asked for much and gave so much back to the people around him.”
He enjoyed the beauty of nature to its fullest and spent many happy hours on trips at the Western Michigan shoreline for hikes and bonfires with friends.
Ian had an incredible talent for cooking, treating his family to delicious meals like enchiladas and baked spaghetti squash. He seemed to have an innate sense for just the right spices and cook times, sometimes creating his own unique recipes as he went.
Personifying the phrase, “still waters run deep,” Ian was a quiet man and a deep thinker. He was benevolent, compassionate and tolerant, thinking the best of everyone and willing to help anyone who needed it. He will be forever missed by all who knew and loved him.
Ian is survived by his parents, Mary Ferrick and Daniel Zetterlund, and sister Alisa (Erik) Cormendy. His memory will be treasured always by his many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A visitation for Ian will be held Friday, December 8, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Memory Sharing at 7:00 PM, at Pixley Funeral Home, 322 W. University Dr., Rochester, Michigan 48307.
