Jewel Bessie Starnes

STARNES, Jewel B., age 91, of The Villages, FL, passed away September 11, 2010, at Cornerstone Lane Purcell Hospice Home in Sumterville, FL. Mrs. Starnes was born in Galatia, IL on December 19, 1918, to the late John G. and Effie (Ritter) Jones. She was married to the late Roy L. Starnes for 52 years and they made their home in Pontiac, Michigan until she moved to The Villages in September of 2003. She was a life-long homemaker and was considered by many to be an outstanding cook and seamstress. She also enjoyed gardening and working crossword puzzles. She was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include her son, Richard L. (Stephanie) Starnes of the Villages; her two grandsons, Dr. Trevor (Danielle) Starnes of Charlottesville, VA and Toller (Maria) Starnes of Keller, TX. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Sydney and Austin Starnes as well as her step-great-grandchildren, Dominick and Sean McArthur. Besides her late husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers John, Earl, J.W., Orval and Orell Jones along with her sisters Thelma Malone, Pearl Kruse and Nova Sanders. Also surviving are a number of nephews and nieces. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at PIXLEY FUNERAL HOME, 322 W. University Drive in Rochester until the time of funeral services at 11:00 a.m., Pastor Dennis Rasper of Mountaintop Christian Church in Macomb Twp. Officiating. Burial will follow in White Chapel Cemetery in Troy.
