John was born the son of Thomas and Pearl (Sylvester) Galvin on October 24, 1925, in Detroit, Michigan. He served in the US Navy as a submarine spotter during WWII. John married Kathleen Galvin on May 10, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan and they raised their family in Grosse Pointe. John had a career as a pipe fitter for the commercial building construction industry. He was a member of the Pipe Fitters Union local 636.
John was instrumental in setting up the museum at Selfridge Air Force base. He took pride in caring for his family, especially his grandchildren. John was known by all as a kind gentleman with endless optimism.
John was predeceased by his wife Kathleen Galvin and sons Ross and Reed Galvin. John is survived by his grandchildren Terra (Aaron) Faulk, Allison (David) Patterson, Brittany (Daryl) Lanzon, and Eoin (Ashleigh) Galvin-Jensen; and great-grandchildren Jacob, Matthew, Ava, Cavan, Owen, Averie, and Declan.
