Marie Ange (Kouo) Weng passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at the age of 86. She was born in Shanghai, China, on September 14, 1937, to Kouo Fou-Pei and Ting Chou-Ming. She attended lycée in Paris, France, and emigrated to the US in 1956 aboard the S/S Queen Mary. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1959, a Master’s degree in Nursing from the University of Missouri in 1967, and a PhD in Education from the University of Michigan in 1983. She spent most of her professional career as a Professor of Nursing at Oakland Community College in Michigan. She enjoyed swimming, painting, reading, and traveling. She was also very active in the community and served in several leadership positions with the Association of Chinese Americans and Council of Asian Pacific Americans in Southeast Michigan.
Marie is predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Tung Hsiang, and survived by her three sons David, Eugene (Margie, Linda), and Andrew (Kerry), and her eight grandchildren Tyler (Jenn), Garret, Sophia, Natalie, Alexander, Jason, Diana, and Max. She is also predeceased by her brother Alexander (Betty), and survived by her siblings Marie-Therese, Louis (Lucille), and Denise (Gene).
A private ceremony will be held at the Van Hoosen Jones Stoney Creek Cemetery in Rochester Hills, Michigan on January 20, 2024.
