As time passes I still think about Mark; everyday in fact. He was my friend, my mentor, my colleague. I think every soul that had the privilege of meeting Mark can say he didn't have a negative bone in his body. He was everyone's friend. He was the only staff member that called me to check on me while I was pregnant and home ill. He was selfless and generous. I miss him dearly. Gone too soon. Thank you for allowing us at Reuther to have the time we did with him.  I am fortunate and blessed to have worked with such a kind-hearted person that made me laugh and made me feel important. My thoughts are with Mark's family as well.  God bless you all.

Mark was one of the most patient men I know.  He taught me how to build a snowman out of clay.  I am a horrible sculpture, but he never gave up on me.  It was a blessing to work with him.  He will be missed!

Dear Renee, Rick and Mike... As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted in knowing the many lives Mark touched during his earthly sojourn. He was loud and proud when it came to talking about all of you.

I had the pleasure of running track at Reuther 1987-88 and was also lucky enough to be coached by the wonder Mr. Lane. then I got to see him off the track in Art class. He was a great man and will be missed by all who knew him!

Mr. Lane was a great teacher and coach. I learned a lot of things from him, and I am going to miss him very much. He was a peaceful man, and he  encouraged me to do better for myself and others when it came to track. I never thought that he would go home to see God, but I know he is in a better place. God has truly blessed Mr. Lane who always kept a smile on his face. I love Mr. Lane. He was a very funny person and cheerful. It was fun to get to know him. I think he is smiling from heaven now. :)

Mr lane i was just talking about you two days ago the day of your viewing. i did not get the news til just today. i am so saddened to here your gone but i know you'll live on with all of us. you gave me faith strength courage and shelter during my years at reuther. you let me stay in your clsss even during your lunch hour so i wasn't amongst the peers who harrassed me so bad. your caring and love for art and your students made you my favorite teacher to this day even. Mr Lane was my art teacher and track coach at Reuther. It was always good to see him and shake his hand as I grew into a young adult. His contributions to the lives of many kids will surely not be easily forgotten. I was saddened to hear of his passing. r-e-r-e-r-e-u-u-t-u-t-u-t-h-h-h-h-e-r-r-e-u-t-h-e-r-reuther!

The link to this page appeared on the Facebook timeline of a different Mark Lane that I know from Dearborn. When we realized it wasn't that Mark Lane, I wondered if it was the one I went to school with. It was. I used to hang out with Lance and Mark way back in elementary school. Sad to hear of Mark's passing even though we haven't seen each other for 30 years or more. You two are responsible for some of my best childhood memories of fun and adventures.

Today was a beautiful memorial service - - a living testimony shared by all of us who were fondly connected through Mark's print of enthusiasm and laughter. Mr. Lane was my art teacher at Reuther Middle School. When I began his class, I had neither artistic interest nor talent, but somehow Mr. Lane inspired me to think and do otherwise. He was a fantastic and beloved teacher who bestowed upon me an appreciation for art that I still carry with me twenty years later. I am saddened to hear that he has left us much too soon. He always spoke so fondly and proudly of his family; I am very sorry for your loss.

Thank you, Mr. Lane, for welcoming all of us into your home over the years and always greeting us with a smile. You had the rare ability to continuously make us laugh. My thoughts and prayers go out to Mrs. Lane, Rick, and Mike. He will truly be missed.

Mark was a great friend! He spread cheer to the boy scouts when we were camping and on outings. He will be missed! We had the honor of having Mark in our lives. The Haberkamps.

Mark Lane, you were such a kind soul. Your ability to reach into the hearts of so many to bring out their beauty was uncanny. I had you as my middle school art teacher and then as a colleague. Thank you for sharing your light. My love goes to you and your family.

Mr. Lane was an incredible, kind-hearted and hilarious individual. I thank him for his compassion, his guidance, his encouragement (both with a brush and on the track), and of course the first set of drawing pencils I've ever had. Very blessed to have had him as an instructor and mentor. My thoughts go out for his family and friends.

Lance & Vicki, I was very sad to hear of Mark's passing.  I will always remember Mark as a healthy young man who loved his family and friends. Renee, you and your boys are in my prayers.

Mr Lane's passing touches my daughter and I on many levels. He taught art to Hannah in 6th grade, while in 7th grade I was diagnosed with stage 3 c cancer. Hannah and her Reuther friends always tried to keep up to date on Mr Lane's health as they loved him so much and missed him when he retired. Last August my cancer progressed to stage 4, & told get my affairs in order. It's numbing hearing those words and walking this cancer walk with loved ones. At school, Hannah wrote a note to Mrs. Lane, as she left the room she sobbed and later begged me to come to school (I just had chemo iv disconnected that morning and felt icky..but love supercedes all else.) I pray he feels no pain now and watches over your family and Reuther families. 
I learned a few things from my cancer:
* never forget to say I love you and I care
* don't forget to live.. live as you want not for someone else where you have regrets
* trust God, friends & family will help/provide
* the good you learn having cancer outweighs the sickness & surgeries. Therefore there is never a reason to be angry at god for this disease.
* always keep your humor and share it with others
* All are touched by one living with cancer in some way..Some will help you, some will help others,  donate their hair, etc
* a hug is heart filling and simple, never underestimate that power
These are life's blessings/lessons
Our hearts go out to you and all touched by mr. Lane 
We hope as time passes the loss of him will hurt less as you remember all the good and carry what you learned forward .?

Mark Lane was one in a million.  I had the privilege of working with him at Reuther Middle School for 11 years.  He never complained about his illness.  He was a role model for his students and his colleagues.  I feel blessed that he was in my life.  My deepest sympathy to Renee, Rick, Michael and Mark's entire family.  RIP Mark.

As with countless other adults and  students alike, Mark Lane touched my life.  Mr. Lane's fighting spirit, passion for teaching, and amazing attitude have always resonated throughout me, while I've battled my own health issues.  I consider it an honor to have been in the mere presence of such a quality individual, and role model.  May Mr. Lane's passion and wonderful spirit always be part of our daily presence throughout our lives.  My heart goes out to Mr Lane's family, friends, and the multitude of students for whose lives he has touched.

Mr. Lane taught art to three out of our four children at Reuther MS.  He was a great teacher and had a wonderful way of bringing out the creativity in his students.  One of the last times I saw  Mr. Lane was at the MS Oakland County Track Meet last year where he sat and cheered his athletes on in the bitter cold while in the midst of his illness.  It revealed how caring and persevering of a person he was.  We are sorry for your loss.

He was a wonderful teacher and friend to all the Kilberg boys. Someone they would always go back to talk to many years after graduation.Mark knew how to laugh with young teen boys and instill a sense appreciation of all their skills.
