Born on February 22, 1950, Michael was a gentle and kind-hearted soul, known for his honesty, selflessness, and unwavering faithfulness. Throughout his life, he was cherished and admired for his loyalty, generosity, and devotion to his family and friends.
Born and raised in the heart of Detroit, Michael was a true son of the Motor City. He spent much of his early career at Absopure, traversing the city he loved and forging fond memories along the way. Later, he proudly worked at Warren Truck, where he contributed to building the vehicles that defined the era.
He was married to Kathy Kostrzewski (nee:Plezia) for 47 wonderful years. Together, Michael and Kathy raised two sons, Brian (Jolanta) and Jeff (Mandy), and he is the cherished grandfather of Evan, Noah, Brennan, and Jackson. Michael is a loving brother of Dennis (Glenda) and Alan.
In his later years, Michael devoted himself fully to caring for Kathy during her illness. His quiet strength and unwavering love during that time spoke volumes about the depth of their marriage. Kathy preceded him in death eight years ago.
Michael loved classic cars and could often be found talking about the models that once defined Detroit’s golden era, especially the 1966 Ford Thunderbird. But nothing brought him greater joy than his grandsons. He delighted in surprising Evan, Noah, Brennan, and Jackson with small toys, his smile widening with every excited reaction.
Michael was actively involved in the Sterling Heights Senior Center, where he was a cherished member of the community. No matter who he met—a stranger at the store, a neighbor, or a passing acquaintance—Michael had a quiet habit of saying, “They seem really nice.” It wasn’t just a phrase; it was his way of seeing the good in people, a gentle reminder of his kind and open heart. Everyone who knew Michael loved him. He was everyone’s friend.
He was always down to go out to eat—always. Whether it was a diner, a coney island, or a favorite local spot, Michael never turned down a meal with family or friends. Some of his happiest times were shared over plates of food with his best friends: Larry, Buddy, and John.
In the words of Michael, "I'll get to that tomorrow.”
