Nelson and I were teenage close friends. I lived and worked on the Greer farm in Fowlerville, Michigan. I was in awe of Nelson running an 80 acre farm, milking 20 cows twice a day. 
  Wow! He was a very talented teenager. He was the Fowlerville High School Artist. 
  So sad to hear of his passing.

A great designer, artist, colleague, and dear friend for over fifty years, going back to Mac's in the Penobscot Bldg., and New Center Studio down the street. Nelson was also a terrific supporter of classical music venues around town. A super-star in every respect. And even though I haven't seen him in quite a while, I will miss him.  

Nelson was an incredible teacher and his mentorship left a lasting impression on me. I’ll always remember his warm smile, sense of humor, and caring approach. He made us all better. My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. He was a truly special person — one of the best. 

Nelson was the best a man could be. Encouraging, smart, direct, funny, friendly, warm. CCS and the many students you mentored will miss you and share your legacy. Condolences to the family and friends of Nelson. We will miss a great man and contribution to design and society. Rest in Peace friend. 

I am endlessly grateful for my time spend with Nelson at CCS. He was a wonderful mentor and designer, always encouraging his students to push boundaries and let their creativity run free. I will never forget the day he cut a perfect circle out of corrugated cardboard with an X-acto knife in packaging design. What a national treasure! Rest in peace Nelson.

I met Nelson when I was a student at CCS my sophomore year and he was the kind of talented designer/ illustrator I had hoped to be. Not only did he graciously and effortlessly convey his expertise and wealth of knowledge to us, he did it with a sense of humor (his hilarious cross hallways spats with his friend Chuck Champagne were legendary on the second floor of the Tinkertoy Building). He set the template for me on how to be a professional and years later when I did go back and teach at CCS, he again was a guiding force; his stories of the grand studio days were rip roaring and knee slapping. His compassion was endless as well as his humility. He touched generations of talented and driven students in Detroit. His influence was far and wide and for those of us who were fortunate to have known him, we all carry on a piece of his legacy.

Nelson was a wonderful teacher, colleague and human being.  Godspeed 

I think Nelson was the best designer and talented  artists I have ever known when we were working at the studio his drawings on his board were pieces of Art I will miss him love to his family 

It was indeed an honor for me to work with Nelson Greer. He was a fantastic colleague, with a gentle, ready wit, warm smile, and always congenial manner. Nelson's intellect, talent, and professional experiences contributed immeasurably to the growth of his students. Dedicated to his students' success, Nelson's pleasant relaxed nature and genuine rapport built strong bonds. His keen eye and gentle nudging contributed immeasurably to his students' transition from students to professionals. 

Nelson is a much-missed colleague.

Nelson was such a wonderful and caring person. A terrific instructor at Center For Creative Studies, he left a lasting impact on many, including myself. He will be missed and remembered fondly by many.

I am deeply saddened. One of my oldest and dearest friends and fishing buddy has passed. A truly gifted artist and  teacher. This leaves a hole in my heart.

My heart is heavy with sadness in the passing of Nelson Greer. I was fortunate enough to have Nelson as an instructor at CCS and years later, fortunate to work with him in the design department at CCS. Fortune continued as my daughter was also a design student of his. He was a mentor and colleague. I so appreciated the coffee breaks between classes as he gently shared his sage advice on teaching with me. I am grateful to have known him. My deep condolences to the family and friends of Nelson 💔☮️
