Philip Louis Pharmer passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 16th, 2023. He was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts on June 17th, 1944. Philip went to multiple colleges and universities, such as Ottawa College in Kansas, Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Penn State in Pennsylvania and finally Northwestern in Chicago. That’s where Phil met his love in life Hollis Lynn MacLain Pharmer. She lived down the apartment hallway, and upon meeting, while he held a law book, she proclaimed to her friends "he's mine.” And hers he was, as they spent over 50 years together. They made a great pair and had many adventures in life, love and travel together. After marrying, they later moved to New York, settled in Michigan in 1977, and lived in places such as Grosse Pointe Farms, New Boston, Northville, Milford, Suttons Bay, Traverse City before Phil finally moved to Rochester Hills, Michigan to be closer to his children after Holly passed. Phil had a long, hard-working career in business and did many things, Sales, Consulting, Operations, you name it, but most near and dear to his heart was Package Express, a logistics company he started and ran for over 20 years. Phil was also passionate about many things. Golf. Travel. Reading. Wine. Friends. Business. Politics. Music. History. Sports. But most important was Family. Not necessarily a religious man, he was curious, and near the end of his life, he started to see signs and evidence of another life waiting on the other side. If you knew Phil you knew his energy, his loud, powerful presence, sense of humor, sarcasm, opinions, and general joy and love for life, and the people in it.
Phil was blessed with a big family and he cherished his 3 children, Dana Shuler, Aaron Pharmer and Justin Pharmer, his 6 grandchildren, Matthew Shuler, Lauren Shuler, Emilie Pharmer, Logan Pharmer, Alexander Pharmer, and Madilyn Pharmer, his 4 Brothers, Bill Pharmer, Carl Pharmer, Allen Pharmer, and Danny Pharmer, and 7 Sister-in-laws, Sandy Pharmer, Brenda Pharmer, Dottie Pharmer, Tiffany Pharmer, Mary Giacalone, Joan MacLain, and Phyllis MacLain and Brother-in-laws, Chad “Bruce” MacLain, Gerard Bastrentaz, John Giacalone, and Dwayne Linesenmann.
At his request, Phil’s family had a small, private, personal service on Tuesday, July 18th, 2023 in Rochester Hills, MI at Pixley Funeral Home. The family also hosted a celebration in honor of Phil and Holly on Thursday, October 5th, 2023 at the VI Grill in Suttons Bay, Michigan, where Phil and Holly lived together for 17 years. We miss you and love you, Pop. May your memories and adventures live on forever and ever.
