

Richard was born the son of Richard Sr. and Mary (Rodger) Novak, in Detroit, Michigan on November 17, 1954. He graduated from Saginaw Arthur Hill High School, class of 1972. Richard earned his juris doctorate degree from the University of Detroit Mercy Law School and had a career in practicing law. He married Mary Lynn Fell at Shrine of the Little Flower catholic church in Royal Oak, Michigan in February 1981. Richard and Mary raised their family in Rochester before divorcing in 2009. Richard was a member of the Michigan Bar, and served on the attorney grievance commission. He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church.
Richard had a passion for his family and his faith. He enjoyed golfing, model trains and cowboy action shooting in his younger years.
Richard is survived by his former wife and caretaker Mary Lynn; children Richard (Sandra) Novak III, Jonathon Novak, Christopher (Antoinette) Novak, Peter Novak, and Thomas Novak; grandchildren Gunnar, Piper, Lucas; siblings Jeffrey Novak, Thomas (Kerry) Novak, Matthew (Kathleen) Novak; and brothers-in-law Robert Kennedy and Dennis Herzog. Richard was predeceased by his parents; and his sisters Cynthia Herzog and Mary Pat Kennedy.
Richard’s family welcomes all to a memorial mass on Saturday September 24th, 2022 at 10 a.m. (9:30 a.m. gathering) at St. Andrew Catholic Church, located at 1400 Inglewood Avenue in Rochester, Michigan.
