I am so sorry to hear this! Rob was a great leader of hikes through Hiking Michigan. I went on several of the hikes and had a great time. Thanks, Rob. You will be missed. Condolences to Jo and the rest of your family and friends.

Rob Golda was a good friend of mine. We did not meet up as near as much as I would have liked, but I always knew he was there for me. We first met at Holland Ponds observing the Great Blue Heron nests. My wife Judy and I often visited the rookery to watch nest building, growth of the young ones, and their fledging (learning how to fly and leaving the nest). Rob was often present videotaping the activity. 
About that time Rob decided to map Holland Ponds. He had a particularly interesting style for his maps. I reviewed and suggested additions to his Holland Ponds map. Great map! As time passed he refined his technique and eventually made maps of many local parks. I recommend you check them out at http://www.hikingmichigan.com/ParkMaps.html
He knew every local park trail in Michigan and always had a new adventure to share with anyone who was willing to join him. 
He was more than just a hiker. He was a teacher, a mentor, and an inspiration to many. His enthusiasm was infectious, and he had a knack for inspiring others to get out and explore the world around them. He was always positive, always encouraging, and always willing to share his knowledge and experience with those who were just starting out on their own journeys. 
As we say goodbye to our friend, let us remember the many ways in which he touched our lives. Let us honor his memory by continuing to explore the natural world and by sharing that love with others. And let us take comfort in knowing that our friend's spirit will live on through the beauty of the natural world that he loved so much. Rest in peace, dear friend. Rob – friend and inspiration - you will be deeply missed. 
My thoughts, prayers and condolences are with Rob’s family now as they mourn their loss. But I know they will take comfort in knowing how many lives were positively touched by Rob’s presence on this earth. . – “Dr. Bob”

I have such good memories of attending hikes that Rob led through Hiking Michigan.  He was a man with a big heart, and his love and knowledge of nature and the outdoors knew no bounds.  My sympathies are with Jo and all the Golda family.

We all will miss you.... the Hikes we did were amazing and the knowledge you gave us.  Thank you for loving what you did.  We would often talk and Share.  You recorded my first song/My Fathers song and many after that for our Flute Circle... Blessings to your family...I know your talking with the trees, I hope I hear your voice next time I am in the woods!.... safe travels and see you in the woods.

You will be missed dearly Rob. I have many memories of weekend hikes with you. The petroglyphs, the cheeseburger festival, my first hike with Hike Michigan at Highland rec. The night hikes, the fire side chats, and the talks about cooking and sharing recipes. So many memories.  RIP Rob Golda.  

Susan and I give our heartfelt condolences to Rob’s family, friends and wife Joany, our sister. Rob liked to help family, I’ll always remember how much he helped us install new electrical service for our addition on our house. We’re Praying for all of you.

Rob was my go to hiking expert when I ran the state BOW program for the MI Dept. of Natural Resources. We shared our love of nature.  He was an amazing guy, with a quick wit, always smiling, and a genuine passion for hiking and backpacking.  So long my friend.  See you in the forest one day Rob.  I'll bring my walking stick.
