Roy G Kaiser of Rochester Hills, Michigan went to his heavenly home on November 24, 2020. He was born July 4, 1931. He was preceded in death by his parents, Christian and Martha (Kremkow) Kaiser of Macomb, MI., his brother, Ralph Kaiser, and a daughter (Debra) who died at birth. Loving family members include his wife of 64 years, Eileen (Heldt) Kaiser, whom he met at Concordia, River Forest; children Debra Kaiser (stillborn). Timothy Kaiser of Washington D.C.; Cynthia Schroeder (Mark) of Boston, MA., Lori Tonne (Kraig) of Valparaiso, IN.; and Joel Kaiser (Pam Friebe) of Frankenmuth, MI.
He and Eileen were blessed with 9 grandchildren: Gretchen (Schroeder) and Matt Murphy, Anna (Schroeder) and Austin Taylor, Christina Kaiser (deceased), Zachary Kaiser and Alison Barger Kaiser, Riley Kaiser, Andrew Kaiser, Grace Kaiser, LilyAnn Kaiser, Alena Tonne, Nick Tonne, and great grandson, Caleb Murphy. He was also blessed by loving nieces and nephews.
Roy attended St. Peter Lutheran School and had his father as teacher for all 8 years. He graduated from Mt. Clemens High School, and received his B.S. teaching degree from Concordia Teachers College (Concordia University--Chicago) He did a year of internship (supply teaching) at First Lutheran School in Chattanooga, TN. His graduate studies included: University of Pittsburgh / PA School for the Deaf (Deaf training) and Wayne State University: M.Ed and D. Ed.
He was a teacher/principal for 38 years. Taught 2 years at the Detroit School for the Deaf, 2 years as teacher and youth director at Jehovah (Greenfield Peace) Lutheran School in Detroit, and 34 years at St. John Rochester as teacher and principal. He also taught college classes at Concordia, Ann Arbor and Concordia, River Forest. After retirement, Roy and Eileen spent a year in Bangkok, Thailand with the LCMS Concordia Gospel Ministry Center, teaching English.mainly to Thai young adults.
He served on various boards of the Michigan District and Synod, and was involved in synodical educational projects (Strengthening and Starting Lutheran Schools). Roy received awards from Concordia, Seward; Concordia, River Forest; and Concordia, Ann Arbor. He also received the National Distinguished Principal award from the U. S. Office of Education. He led a Bible Study at Sunrise Assisted Living for many years. He was active in the Optimist Club of Rochester.
His hobbies included gardening, hunting, fishing and woodworking. His favorite place to be was at his 10 acres of hunting land in Gladwin, MI. But above all, he loved his Lord, and felt privileged to be able to teach children and adults about his Savior. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the St. John School and Church Foundation: Dr. Kaiser Educational Enrichment Fund. Envelopes will be available at St. John Lutheran and Pixley Funeral Home.
