Sharon Ann Zalewski was born January 6, 1955, and passed away October 14, 2024 at the age of 69. Beloved daughter of the late Michaelene and Walter Benecki. Loving wife of Matthew Zalewski. Proud mother of Matthew Jason Zalewski. Dear sister of Jean Backus and Patricia (Richard) Seeger. Dearest aunt of Lisa Backus, Richard Seeger, Edward (Nicole) Zalewski, and Sarah Zalewski. She is also survived by many close family and friends.
Sharon fought a long and courageous 19-year fight against breast cancer until she departed from her journey surrounded by her family. She was married for 47 years and was so extremely proud of her son, Matthew Jason.
In her early years, Sharon loved music and learned to play the guitar. Her bike was her favorite and she would take a bike ride every day in the summer. She also loved horses and collected horse statues to display on her bedroom shelf and had a lifelong dream of owning a horse farm.
In her teen years, Sharon went roller skating every Sunday. She bought her dream car – a Plymouth Duster – with pinstriping and decals and the noisy muffler to go with it. It was her vision of a race car.
After high school, she worked at Fisher Body and then as a switchboard operator. She met Matthew Zalewski through her cousin, Larry Skutnik. They enjoyed dates of hockey games, roller skating, and family boating. They were married November 27, 1976. They made their home in Madison Heights and in 2006 they built their dream house in Auburn Hills. Sharon took pride in her home and made delicious home-cooked meals. Holidays at her house were festive and fun! In 1982 her son, Matthew Jason, was born. She loved being a mom more than anything and cherished every moment of her son’s growing up years.
As an adult, Sharon still loved music and went to many concerts of her favorite bands. Her last one was just this past June. She saw Roger Daltry and just loved it! She loved coffee, Spongebob Squarepants, silly cartoons, and Lifetime movies. She loved pets and, through the years, had a bunny, a beagle, canaries, and many fish who she considered friends and not just animals. She enjoyed flowers and plants, frequenting English Gardens and Bordine’s for the perfect addition to her landscaping. She achieved a dream of a beautiful self-designed deck in recent years which she was so happy about! She enjoyed taking vacations with Matthew and Matthew Jason. Some favorite destinations were Mackinaw, the Upper Peninsula, and Colonial Williamsburg!
Sharon cared deeply for everyone and was always concerned for everyone’s safety and well-being. She had kind words and best wishes for her family and extended family. You can always expect a card and personal note from Sharon because she was so thoughtful and caring!
