Shurley M. White, age 90, passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2021, in her home in Rochester Hills, Michigan. Shurley was the loving mother of James M. White, Jr. and Dr. John H. White. Prior to moving back to Michigan in 2005, Shurley lived in Florida and then moved to Monroeville, Alabama, to be near her son John. As an avid golfer, until she was 75 years old, she helped her teammates win several women's tournaments in Michigan and Alabama.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James M. White, Sr. (1992), her mother Elizabeth Hughes (1977), her father, Ross Hughes (1958), seven siblings, nephew Danny Reneaud (1970), nephew Arnold Hughes (2020) and nephew Arthur R. (Christine Santini, of Tennessee) Hughes (2002). Shurley was known as the Florence Nightingale of our family as she was relentless in her total devotion and loving care she so freely gave to her family.
Shurley is survived by her sons James M. (Sharon) White, Jr., of Waterford and John H. (Lois) White of Romeo, MI; grandson James M. (Lydia) White, III, of Birmingham, MI; niece Linda Bolte (Karl) of Metamora, MI; niece Susan (Tim) Garvock of Grand Blanc, MI; niece Anne Dukatz, Attica, MI; and nephew Phillip (Barbara) Reneaud of Keystone Heights, FL. Also, she is survived by several great-nieces and nephews, including Kevin (Nicole) Bolte of Lapeer, MI; Steven Bolte (Rebecca) of Poquoson, VA; Brianna (Jason) Eisenbrandt of Metamora, MI; Jared (Jennifer) Garvock of Waterford, MI; Julie (Mark) Frygogle of Grand Blanc, MI; Meaghan (Nathan) Morrison of Georgia, Maison (Ashleigh) Hughes of Georgia, and Marissa (Joe) McDowell of South Carolina.
Additionally, Shurley was an animal lover, and her cat, Marcus, will join John and Lois' family. Viewing will be at Pixley Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., 322 W. University Dr., Rochester, Michigan 48307, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. After the funeral service, the burial will be at Cadillac Gardens East Cemetery, 38425 Garfield Road, Clinton Township, MI 48038.
